Special Educational Needs at Crestwood College for Business and Enterprise

Crestwood College has a caring and sensitive approach to students with individual learning needs.   As with all the students in the college we are looking to maximise their potential in an atmosphere of support and encouragement.   Our aim is the early identification of a student’s needs and to provide the essential experience of success through tightly focussed individual education programmes (where needed).

The ILN department collates all the information on incoming students.   Those who we identify as needing our support have Individual Learning Programmes and are carefully tracked.   Attainable targets are set for students and placed in their record books.   Progress is reviewed (usually termly) and new targets set.   The department is staffed by experienced Teachers, Curriculum Support Workers and Behaviour Support Workers to help all students to achieve success.

Teaching and Learning:
Learning Support provides up-to-date data, strategies and advice to all departments to enable them to meet student’s individual needs.

Support is given to students in a variety of ways including:  small group Literacy or Numeracy, 1:1 or 1:2 teaching, differentiation, help with homework and coursework.  In KS4 students with ILN are advised to choose Study Support as an option in order that they continue with their literacy and numeracy development and to ensure that they are given appropriate support in all other areas of their coursework including life skills.
