need to have returned an Enrolment Form available from the Librarian.

All computers need to be booked in advance to use at break and lunch.
Homework Club
The Library
is open Monday – Thursday after school for students to research, use
computers or read. The club is supported by The Librarian and a Learning
Mentor.
Reference Library
These
books cannot be taken from the Library, and include encyclopedias,
atlases, and dictionaries.
Non-Fiction Books
These
books are divided into sections using the Dewey Classification system.
This means that if you want to find a book on a particular subject you
look it up on the wall chart or ‘Where to look’ file first to find out
the number. The books are filed in number order and the shelves labeled
to help you find the number you need.
Fiction Books
These
books have been arranged in alphabetical order by author’s last name.
There is also a 14-19 year section.
Student Librarians and Prefects
The
Library is supported by Student Librarians at both lunch and break
times. They help students select and record books on the computer and
receive back any returned books/ tapes.

The Crestwood Reading Tree
Year
7 students use
the reading tree scheme and enjoy their visits to the Library
where they are encouraged to choose a variety of books from
different genres. The scheme continues through Year 8 and this
year we are including target setting at the end of each term so
that students, working with their teacher, can establish
individual reading targets which will enable them to monitor and
assess their reading development.
Merits, stickers, certificates and prizes add an extra incentive
for students to read widely and make personal choices which
match their reading ability.
The scheme was
introduced
three years
ago and it has been a successful addition to encouraging reading
for enjoyment. The Library and the English department have
worked together to maintain this valuable contribution in
developing reading skills and will continue to promote and
support the scheme for Crestwood students in Years 7 and 8. |
