Humanities at Crestwood College for Business and Enterprise

The Humanities are fundamental to developing the student’s understanding of their place in the world.   Through the Humanities students can find out and appreciate the physical and human events that have shaped the society and country in which they live both through history and at the present time.   It encourages and enables students to evaluate the world in which they live and make positive and meaningful decisions about the future.

Great emphasis is placed upon developing the students’ ongoing skills and curiosity about their surroundings, which is supported through fieldwork and visits.

In the lower school students are taught in mixed ability groups in Year 7 and are then set in Years 8 and 9.   The course fully covers the requirements of the National Curriculum for History, Geography and Religious Education through a variety of topics covering local, natural and global issues.

An overview of the Humanities Key Stage 3 curriculum plan is available to view here.

At Key Stage 4 students have the opportunity to follow full GCSE courses in Geography and History and also have the opportunity to achieve a half GCSE in Religious Education.   Students consistently achieve at or around the national average in Geography, History and Religious Education GCSE courses.
