Citizenship at Crestwood College for Business and Enterprise

Citizenship is taught to all year groups both as part of the weekly programme delivered by tutors on Wednesday mornings and through other curriculum subjects. The three broad areas we study in Citizenship are:

  • Rights and Responsibilities
  • Communities and Identities (local, national and global)
  • Democratic Processes and Government

The approach towards these subject areas aims to develop:

  • Knowledge and Understanding about becoming informed citizens
  • Skills of Enquiry and Communication
  • Skills of Participation and Responsible Action

Assessment Procedures

All students have the opportunity to take a short course GCSE in Citizenship Studies in their final year. A practical activity forms the basis of their coursework for the examination. At the end of Key Stage 3 it is assessed by tutors as to whether students are either working towards, achieving, or working beyond expectations. Work is also self and peer assessed in student files.
